Keeping Healthy throughout Isolation!!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all safe and well!!

I really hope you all enjoyed my last post on 7 things to do during Isolation.

As we head into another two weeks of isolation here in Ireland, i am trying to keep myself busy by doing some things around the house such as tidying/re-organising items and iv'e also been baking a few nice cakes along the way, i have also been doing plenty of walking which is key for keeping healthy.

For today's post i wanted to talk to you all about how i am keeping myself healthy throughout isolation.

As some of you are already aware, i was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes two years ago and then towards the end of last year i was also diagnosed with Graves Disease (which is a Autoimmune Disorder). Both these conditions mean that i'm at risk of getting Covid-19, so far i haven't had any symptoms as like so many of us i have been distancing myself from family and the general public especially when out and about.

Below i have listed some tips on how i have been keeping healthy throughout Isolation:

Scheduling Days for Grocery Shopping/Collecting Medication

My first tip is Scheduling Days for Grocery Shopping/Collecting Medication. Over the last few weeks since lockdown began i have been scheduled my days, such as going grocery shopping and popping to my local pharmacy to stock up on any medication i may need. When i go grocery shopping i firstly list out what i need to buy, i feel that this is the quickest way of planning your grocery shop and it also helps in managing your time when in store.
Usually i would spent roughly around 15-20 minutes in store depending on the queue for the checkouts. But the majority of the time i tend to shop as quickly as possible without delay. When it comes to collecting my Medication, i would usually either drop my prescription in the day before i am due to collect it or i would use my pharmacy's App which comes in very handy when ordering my Medication.

Supplements/Vitamins

Taking Supplements/Vitamins is key for good health. I have always taken Vitamins on a daily basics to help with my overall health. I usually take my normal A-Z Multivitamin which are essential vitamins and minerals to support my overall health and wellbeing. I also take Cod Liver Oil which helps improve bone health, support eye health and reduce inflammation.

I take my Vitamins first thing in the morning after my breakfast, first i inject the insulin i need for the day followed by my vitamins, i also take a probotic drink which helps support my immune system.

Exercise/Walking

My third tip for keeping healthy through isolation is Exercising/Walking. I have to hold my hand up and say i have literally been walking everyday (within in my 2k zone) since lockdown began. Up until the lockdown i had just completed my 99k fundraiser for Dogs Trust.
As i have three dogs i really don't have an excuse for not walking, i sometimes go for just the one walk and then other times when the weather is nice out i like to go for two walks (one in the morning and then again in the evening). I also like to do a quick 15 minute workout as well such 3x sets of squats, push-ups and press-ups along with doing some weight training too which is really good not only for keeping fit but good for the mind as well.

Cooking Healthy Meals

One benefit about isolation is that i have time on my hands to try out some really nice Healthy Meals such as Chicken Dishes, Pasta Dishes and Stir Fry's. I have also been baking quite a few sweet treats as well such as my very yummy Chocolate Fudge Cake.

Relaxing/Me Time

Now that Isolation is full swing i find the days to be quite long. Throughout these long days i tend to keep myself busy, whether its going for a long walk, catching up on some blogging or cooking. But some days i feel like having a lazy day where i like to chill out by putting on a face-mask and watching a movie or two!!
I find this essential to have a day of relaxation or me time especially now that the whole country is on lockdown as its good for our mental health to take time out!!

I hope you guys enjoyed my post on Keeping Healthy throughout Isolation!!

Please Stay Safe and Stay at Home!!

Love

Louise
